R.C. Chaffin - President & Chief Executive Officer

R.C. Chaffin is President and Chief Executive Officer of SeaCoast Underwriters, Inc. He is responsible for planning and overseeing the Company’s operating and staff functions and the Company’s financial results. He has more than 30 years of experience in the Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance industry. Mr. Chaffin has held underwriting/loss control, marketing and executive management positions with Atlantic American Corporation, Georgia Casualty and Surety, Utica National Insurance Group, Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company and Skandia Southeast Companies (aka Southern Underwriters and Capital Assurance).


Mr. Chaffin has been the Owner and CEO of SeaCoast Underwriters for 15 years. He is a licensed General Agent (220) and a Florida Surplus Lines Agent (120) and serves on the Board of the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office, completing his term as Chairman in 2010. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman.


R.C. was recently elected President Elect of American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA) and is active in other national and state industry associations.

Shawn Chaffin - Executive Vice-President

Mr. Chaffin started his career in 1994, with Denis M. Clayton & Co. Ltd., a Lloyds Broker in London. After graduating from Jacksonville University in 1996, Mr. Chaffin completed his fifth year as an enlisted Marine Corps Reservist. In 1997 he received a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a Lieutenant until 1999. After completing his military service, he took a position as an analyst assistant with E.W. Blanch in Atlanta, Georgia where his team developed reinsurance programs for P&C carriers. In December of 1999, he joined SeaCoast Underwriters, Inc. where his duties included marketing and administration. Mr. Chaffin currently manages the Lake Mary office. Mr. Chaffin serves as a member of the Board of Directors of SeaCoast Underwriters, Inc where he is involved in management and ownership decisions. He holds both the Florida (220) and (120) agent licenses and has earned the industry designations, AAI and ASLI.

Suzanne Chaffin - Executive Assistant

Suzanne joined SeaCoast Underwriters “officially” in 1999 as the Executive Assistant in the Coral Gables office.  She is responsible for all corporate licensing, compliance, real estate, corporate travel and many other corporate functions.  Suzanne received her B.A. degree in Political Science from Stetson in 1978.  Prior to relocating to Miami in 1991, she taught high school American Government classes in Atlanta Georgia. In 1993, Suzanne became a licensed residential Realtor, specializing in corporate relocation for several years before joining the family business.

Marketing Team



Dustin Yost - Marketing & Territory Development, Georgia

Dustin Yost joined SeaCoast Underwriters in 2010 with the responsibilities of Marketing & Territory Development for the state of Georgia. He graduated from Georgia State University with a B.S. degree in Risk Management & Insurance and immediately began working for a Managing General Agent in the Atlanta area specializing in excess and surplus lines. Dustin has spent his time in the industry as a Commercial Lines Underwriter and in various marketing capacities.

Policy Processing Team



Fay Ray - Policy Processing  Supervisor

Ms. Ray joined SeaCoast in 2001 as a Commercial Lines Rater. She began her insurance career in 1974 with Travelers Insurance Company working in the file room and was later trained as a commercial lines rater. In 1979 Ms. Ray accepted a position with Seibels Bruce Insurance Company as a commercial lines rater and soon after was promoted to the Audit Supervisor. In 1998 she became a commercial lines rater in the Large Lines Division at CNA, where she handled multi-line, multi-state accounts. In 2006 she was promoted to Processing Department Supervisor at SeaCoast Underwriters.

Carmen Allende - Policy Processing Assistant

Carmen began her insurance career in 1998 at Excess Lines Association of New York as an examiner reviewing documents for compliance.  In 2004 she became a Technical Assistant / Surplus Lines Coordinator at Willis of New York, where she was responsible for filing surplus lines taxes, affidavit filings and policy issuance for the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania branch offices.  Carmen joined SeaCoast Underwriters in 2007 as a policy processor. She currently holds her CSR License (440).

JoAnn Simmons - Policy Processing Assistant

JoAnn began her insurance career as a secretary at CNA in Orlando.  In 2003 she obtained her Florida (220) license and became a technical assistant at Marsh USA in Lake Mary. She joined SeaCoast Underwriters in 2008 as a processing assistant and receptionist.

Susan Steenhagen - Policy Processing Assistant

Sue joined SeaCoast in 2010 as a Processing Assistant. She began her insurance career as a Policy Typist in the early 1970s at Sentry Insurance Company in Grand Rapids, MI. She accepted a position with CNA Insurance, where she initially worked as a Policy Processor and was steadily promoted to a Commercial Rater and then to a BAP Underwriter. Sue worked as a Brokers Assistant at Crump Insurance Services for 10 years before moving to Shelly, Middlebrooks and O’Leary to become a Transportation Underwriter. She currently holds her CSR License (440).

Information Technology



Sunil Singh - Information Technology Manager

Mr. Singh joined SeaCoast in 2008 as IT Manager. He began his career in the technology as a FCC Licensed Broadcast Engineer working in the television industry.  After leaving the television industry, he continued his IT education while obtaining his Associate's of Science Degree in Computer Networking and Programming. In 2000, Mr. Singh accepted the position of IT Manager for the Maitland-based offices of Innovative Data Management. While there, he managed the IT and telecommunications infrastructures for 30 in-house employees and 100 remote client employees.

Human Resources



Karen Michael - Human Resources Specialist

Ms. Michael joined SeaCoast in 2007 as the Human Resources (HR) Specialist. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1996 she began her career working as a counselor for at-risk youth. In 2004 Ms. Michael further pursed her education and obtained her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida, while simultaneously interning as an HR Administrator. Ms. Michael advanced into an HR Management position for three years prior to getting hired as SeaCoast Underwriters, Inc.’s first Human Resources Specialist.’ She recently achieved her industry designation as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in 2009.

Accounting Team



Yanay Blanco - Senior Accounting Manager

Yanay started with Southern Underwriters /Capital Assurance in May of 1986 as an Accounting Clerk and rose to become an Accounts Receivable Supervisor. She joined SeaCoast Underwriters in September 1996 as an Accounting Manager. In 2005 she was promoted to Senior Accounting Manager. With more than 23 years of experience, Mrs. Blanco has acquired significant knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, fiduciary responsibilities and compliance with the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office.

Nicole Lamanda-Hernandez - Accounting Administrator

Nicole began her Accounting career in 2006 as Office Manager for a Public Accounting firm and was later promoted to Staff Accountant. During that time, she completed her B.S. degree in Accounting in 2009. Nicole joined SeaCoast Underwriters in 2010 as an Accounting Assistant.
